![]() Hey, the game I'm going to talk about today is one most people just dismiss as 2D Minecraft. In fact, even I thought of it as just that. That game is Terraria At first glance the game’s world is pretty blocky and also pixelated but, after playing the game, I soon realized that it's so much more than that. Terraria is a game that is also a sandbox game with Mining and building but it heavily differs from Minecraft in many ways. Most notably, the perspective. Most games people play today don't even use a 2D perspective unless they're made by a smaller indie company which in this case is true. The 2D perspective allows you to see through certain blocks into areas and also allows you to manipulate the world in ways which would not be possible with a 3D first person perspective. Terraria is also really well made with it’s amazing music which depends on which biome you’re in and where you’re at in that biome. Biomes are essentially areas with different climates. For example, there’s grass, desert, jungle, and ocean biomes (but that’s not nearly all of them). Terraria was created around the same time as Minecraft but even then the two games were drastically different. Minecraft is a game that I had previously said has no real objective but it still pushes the player towards doing certain things like building, mining, and exploring. Terraria's main focus however, is control. What do I mean by control? Well basically making the player feel like they're powerful and can affect the world in big ways. A large chunk of Terraria's gameplay is spent fighting these colossal boss fights that require you to be very well prepared and equipped with everything you possibly can to ensure victory. Every boss you defeat gives you more resources and changes the world itself as well. This control is evident immediately given the fact that you are given tools and all of the tools in the game can’t break. Meaning, in essence, once you have power you keep it unlike Minecraft where you have to worry about your tools and armor breaking due to them having durability. Also when you make a new character, your character keeps their inventory and items even when you make or go into another world just to further drive this point.
Back to the bosses! Each of these are essential to getting what you need to upgrade your weapons and armor. When mining in Terraria there are several chests which can give you items such as a pair of boots that allow you to run faster, potions that heal you and restore mana which is used for magic, rope to climb, torches for light, and a cloud in a bottle that allows you to double jump just to name a few. What’s even cooler is that later on you can even combine these items so you can have the same effects with them taking up less slots. Another thing you can find are crystal hearts which when used, give you 20 more permanent health up to a maximum of 400. You also increase your mana by getting enough fallen stars to craft a mana crystal which permanently increases the maximum.
![]() All of these bosses lead up to another boss which you can only fight once you mine to the very bottom of your world and reach the underworld. This boss requires you to sacrifice a voodoo doll that looks like your guide into the lava in the underworld. Once you do this you summon the wall of flesh which shoots lasers and follows you until you finally kill it. I also didn’t even mention that those three were the main ones. There were also optional bosses which aren’t really necessary like the queen bee and king slime. So that was all of Terraria. Right? No, that was barely scratching the surface. Once you defeat the wall of flesh once, your world is transformed. What do I mean by that? Well there’s now new ores, a new biome, new items, new weapons, new armor and of course new bosses. What’s next is a fight with a mechanical version of the eye of the Cthulhu, eater of worlds, and skeletron. These guys are even crazier than the ones you fought before and also change the world after you beat them. There’s also a lot more progression to through before you get to the actual final boss…The Moon Lord. I haven’t even gotten to this guy yet but he seems insanely strong. There’s also different events which pit you against pirates, goblins, Christmas and Halloween themed bosses, dragons, and even martians. If you manage to beat all of these and are up for a bigger challenge you can make a new world on expert difficulty. What sets expert mode apart from normal mode is that every single enemy in the game is harder to defeat. But, for the greater risk, you also have greater reward. Enemies will drop better items and items they would normally drop in a higher quantity. Another thing to note is that an upcoming update to the game will add among other things, an even harder difficulty than expert. Even with what seems like an endless amount of content, you still might want more out of the game. But how? Well because of how big of a game Terraria is, it has gotten an overwhelming amount of mods out there for the game. With tmodloader, which will soon basically come with the game in the next update, you can easily search for and download mods which add even more to the game. That’s right, there are even mods that add a whole new level to the game after you beat what the game’s original final boss was that are even harder than you can imagine.

After reading your latest post, it got me intrigued about the game, the reason why it got me intrigued is because you give out important information about the game, like what feature it has, what is it mostly about. some question I have for being that what got you into playing video games? If you had the chance of making your own video game what type will it be an RPG MMORPG or what?

InfoI plan to talk about my progress on the game(s) I'm making and what I've learned during my research. I plan to also make most (75%) or all of the assets in the game. This includes art, music, models, logos, etc. Wish me luck :) Archives
